Bloedel Reflection Pool

Dorothy took me away for the weekend to a B&B on Bainbridge Island, a ferry ride from Seattle across Puget Sound. We spent much of the day at the Bloedel Reserve, a huge, landscaped estate now open to the public. This pool is by itself in the woods, almost severe in its simplicity. It fills naturally from the water table and is maintained at this level by the height of the outlet openings. It must have been one of the Bloedels’ favorite places, since their grave marker is below the hedge, near where I am standing.
