Winter Willow

At least I’m pretty sure this is a willow. This is from a few years back in the University of Washington’s Yesler Swamp on Lake Washington. This area is flooded with a foot or so of water in the summer, when the Army Corps of Engineers raises the level at the Ballard Locks. I don’t know why they do that, but it makes for an interesting scene in the winter, with bare(ish), muddy ground and densely grown willows. (Here’s another photo from the same area.)
