Stump Eruption

Not an especially beautiful photo, but I hope an interesting one. This is another from the exposed lake bed above the site of the Elwha Dam. As I mentioned before, the old stumps from before the dam are reappearing as the sediment erodes away, and this is the first stage of such a reappearance. The stump is still below the surface, but its presence affects how the sediments compact as they dry, causing this ring-shaped upheaval. Looks like it’s a big one.
