Sauk River, St Patrick’s Day

20130317-IMG_2335

Just back from a lovely, easy, and a bit damp and chilly hike along the Sauk River east of Darrington. The river descends from the North Cascades and is cold and fast and loud. A few doughty souls rafted by, appropriately wearing dry suits. This was the Washington Trails Association featured hike for St Patrick’s Day, and the woods were appropiately mossy and green, but with mixed light rain and snow spring isn’t quite here yet. I messed with this photo in color for a bit, but I think it works much better in black and white. I like how it arranges into horizontal bands of varying tones and textures.
