Ballard Locks

Another Sunday outing with our little photography group (that’s a group member to the left). This dam is where Seattle’s Lake Washington, Lake Union, and Ship Canal waterway exits into Puget Sound. The dam operators are letting more water spill than usual, probably due to winter storms. Out of sight to the left are two locks. They’re popular with locals and tourists alike, and there are always people around watching the boats go up and down. I saw a pair of sea kayakers get their own personal trip down through the small lock. That lock may be small in comparison to the big lock, but it still dwarfs a sea kayak.
